Solifer Polar, Sweden’s trusted name in premium travel trailers, partnered with KOPERA to bring to life a next-generation control system that brings advanced convenience and connectivity to their high-end models.
The vision behind this new control system was to enable users to control all key trailer functions—electricity, water, lighting, and heating—through a single in-wall touchscreen. For added convenience, these same functions had to be remotely accessible over 4G and locally over Bluetooth LE, allowing full control from anywhere.
Polar’s ambition was to unify essential trailer controls—managing electricity, water, lighting, and heating—with a high-quality media center, accessible through a single, intuitive in-wall touchscreen interface. For added convenience, the trailer control functions also had to be remotely accessible over 4G, allowing full control and monitoring from anywhere.
KOPERA brought this vision to life by developing a powerful, all-in-one hardware platform that combines an electrical control system, a superior audio platform and a 4G modem.
Built using the Yocto Linux build system, Erlang/OTP for the core system software, Go for the Bluetooth LE connectivity, the software platform was designed to be robust, responsive and continuously operational.
Challenges
- Bandwidth concerns for remote control and connectivity due to the relatively high costs of 4G data.
- Bluetooth compatibility due to minor deviations in the Bluetooth stacks across different hardware vendors.
- Limited network coverage required the design of a fault tolerant system for recovering from connectivity issues.
- DAB radio standard complexity required the design of complex state machinery to handle variation in reception and coverage.
