NowSecure is a leading US based provider of mobile security assessment with customers worldwide ranging from the financial and healthcare to the public sector.
Initially relying on uploaded app binaries for security analysis, NowSecure wanted to adopt a shift left approach that would run security assessments directly on their customers’ devices, drastically shortening the development cycle.
KOPERA jumped in to help shape and build NowSecure’s vision.
NowSecure’s vision for their new solution started out as an interactive application security testing tool for mobile applications. This vision’s focus is a concern for shortening development cycles and minimizing communication overhead between the development teams and security teams.
With solid understanding of the relevant technology tools, KOPERA assisted NowSecure in shaping, building and refining their product throughout the project. With an initial goal of validating technology and providing market testing tools, we swiftly turned our attention to building a solid product once the vision was clear enough.
NowSecure’s observability solution underwent three distinct phases as follows:
Exploration Phase
- Technical Feasibility
Explore the possible and spike through the product; from data collection to modeling and storage, we established a solid blueprint for the different technology layers serving data to relevant UI clients. A preliminary spike through made it easy to detect and resolve technical challenges early on, making the rest of the project smooth sailing. - Market Understaning
Provide an initial framework for the customer to probe the relevant markets and make early and informed decisions about where to focus our efforts. - Initial UI Design
Put into perspective the vision of the product and build a rough yet viable product in search of a coherent user experience. This was extremely useful in the emergence of a product direction. It presented the non technical stakeholders in the team a tangible baseline for input to improve the product.
Execution Phase
- Shift Toward Data Privacy
Drawing from what was learned from the previous phase, and in accordance with a changing market landscape (such as aligning with Apple’s iOS Privacy Manigfests), we were able to accomodate our customer’s novel vision to steer the product further in the direction of Data Privacy. - Focus on Observability
With further market probing and testing, we started executing on a product with a greater focus on the exploration and observation of application runtime with relevant warnings rather than a pure issues notification system. This presents a wider range of usage for the potential end user. - Building a solid technology
With a clear vision laid out for our customer, we’re able to build the necessary and optimized technology to handle the present and future requirements of NowSecure’s Observervability solution. - UI/UX improvement
Through our iterative process and with a clearer vision from the previous phase, we made the necessary improvements to the user interface both visually and in terms of user experience.
Refinement Phase
- Data elevation and trends exploration
With an abundance of relevant data, it became evident that appropriately elevating it into recognizable trends and patterns was necessary. - UI/UX improvement
Pruning away noise and focusing on the most useful interactions for end users drastically improved the look, feel and user experience of the solution’s UI. - Product beta release
A complete and operational end to end product was built and delivered to onboard our customer’s potential users and sail ahead.
